Fort Tyler
On Easter Sunday, April 16, 1865, Federal forces engaged Confederate soliders defending Fort Tyler. The day long battle culminated in the death of General Tyler, and the imprisionment of all remaining soliders. In total, 19 Confederate soliders died in battle that day. The battle actually occurred seven days after the Confederacy had surrended as word had not reached the forces in that area.
